Colorado Master Gardener volunteers in Denver County service out in the community rather than from the Denver County Extension Office. A dedicated corps of 120 volunteers bring a variety of projects to life.
Major Outreach Projects
- Answering gardening questions at farmer's markets.
- Answering viewer calls on Gardenline at the Channel 9 TV studios.
- Maintaining an award-winning water conservation demonstration garden at the Denver City County Building.
- Answering gardening questions through the Garden Help Program at Denver Botanic Gardens.
Additional Outreach Projects
- Seed starting programs to elementary school children.
- Guiding disabled and senior gardeners in plating container and community gardens.
- Healing garden at Craig Hospital.
- Mentoring school gardening programs.
- Educate new Habitat Homeowners on landscape design and maintenance.
- Teaching tree workshops to new home owners.
- Staffing educational events for the Colorado Garden Show and ProGreen Expo.
- Some volunteers find their own community educational project involving people and plants to fulfill their volunteer obligation.

Education for CMG Volunteers
- Basic training for CMG volunteers is provided by a multi-county partnership with Denver, Jefferson and Broomfield Counties in January through March.
- Denver County Extension offers CMG volunteers a variety of continuing education opportunities.
- Monthly meetings of the Denver Master Gardener Association offer CMG volunteers a regular opportunity to hear speakers on a variety of topics.
- Special continuing education programs are presented on different topics ever year.
- Learning tours to look at plants and gardens are organized both in Denver and out of town.
- Multi-county and regional educational opportunities include CMG Plus Classes, ProGreen, CSU Short Course and CSU Field Days.
