The Colorado Master Gardener Program
in Fremont County
Fremont County has a small, but dedicated group of eight Colorado Master Gardener Volunteers. The majority of our outreach includes one-to-on consultation with Fremont County residents, but it also includes special events, community gardening projects and other educational activities.
Community Outreach
- CMG Volunteers are available throughout the growing season to answer residents gardening questions via email, phone or walk-in at the Fremont County Extension Office.
- Xeriscape Demonstration Garden in front of the Fremont County Administration Building.
- School Greenhouse and Garden at Harrison Elementary School.
- Information booths at county fairs, garden clubs, and farmers’ market.
- Offer a variety of classes on gardening.
- Write articles for the local newspapers.
- CMG volunteers serve as superintendents for Open Garden at the Fremont County Fair.
- Beginning a Junior Master Gardener Program.
Education for CMG Volunteers
- Basic training for CMG volunteers is provided at the Teller County Extension Office via distance education technology. The interactive classes classes meet on Thursdays, January through April.
- With the close proximity to Colorado Springs and Pueblo, CMG volunteers may attend continuing education opportunities sponsored by CSU Extension in these counties
- Partnering with the Colorado Natural Heritage Program provided continuing education on native plants.
- A local workshop provided education on noxious and poisonous weeds.
- CMG volunteers may also participate in distance education class offer by the Colorado Master Gardener Program.
